Submission Dates: January 1 through March 15, 2017

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

  • Manuscripts must be typed in Times New Roman, 12pt font, in Microsoft Word format, and sent as an email attachment. (Prose entries should be double-spaced and poetry single-spaced.) Photograph entries should be included as jpeg. files.
  • Categories for submissions are:
    Prose (fiction, memoir & personal essay work)
    Poetry
    Photography (black & white photos only)
  • Multiple submissions may be sent in a single email, HOWEVER each submission (attachment) should only contain one work. Attachments should be titled according to the following: Your last name- Title (category). Example: Smith- A Story of Cake (prose) or Jones- The Snow Falls Softly (poetry) or Grant- Close Up Smile (photography)**
    **Emails cannot exceed 10 megabytes. If you are submitting photographs be sure they do not exceed the limit. You can submit your work in more than one email if your submissions exceed the 10 megabyte size limit.
  • Be sure that your name, full mailing address and email are at the top of EVERY submission (attachment).
    **Photograph submissions should include your name and mailing address in the text of your email.
  • We attempt to limit restrictions on style, subject or length (up to 30 pages). We look for the best written work and photography by high school students (grades 9-12) from the United States. Poetry submissions should be submitted in standard linear style, as we may not be able to maintain special structuring.
  • Send email submissions to appwriter@susqu.edu with the following subject heading:
    ‘2017 APPRENTICE WRITER SUBMISSION’.
  • Please, be sure you have carefully read and followed the instructions above before submitting your work for consideration. Any submissions not sent according to the guidelines will be returned.
  • We are unable to acknowledge those works which are not accepted for publication. If you have not heard from us by May 20, 2017, your work has not been accepted.
  • All rights to the works return to the writer after publication.
  • Be sure to email your submissions during the Submission Period shown below. Early and Late submissions are not able to be considered.

Publication and distribution: August/September 2017
We send copies of The Apprentice Writer to accepted contributors and their teachers.
